ProposalDescription:

National declaration of the Adam Kok III Laager and Battlefield site, located in Mount Currie Nature Reserve, close to Kokstad.

Expanded_Motivation:

At present there are no Griqua sites dedicated to their leaders or their contribution to our history, that are declared as Grade II or Provincial Heritage Sites in KwaZulu-Natal. Secondly, there are also no laager or battlefield site that is in tact and as well conserved in South Africa, then the Adam Kok III Laager and Battlefield Site. The archaeological research potential of the site is very high since no excavation was carried out and secondly, all the features such as hut floors and ox wagon tracks have not yet been discovered. Another survey would be needed for this since historical documents mentioned that the Griqua stayed here for a decade and that the town consisted of about 200 mud and thatched huts.
