Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Batcon Batteries is an existing facility located on Portion 0 of Erf 65 in Daspoort 319 JR, Hermanstad and within the jurisdiction of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality in the Gauteng Province. Batcon Batteries is an existing development with industrial zonation. Surrounding areas comprise of industrial developments and industries.

Expanded_Motivation: 

Notice is hereby given in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA), as amended, the Environmental Impact Regulations (EIA), 2014, as amended, the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 59 of 2008)(NEM:WA), as amended as well as the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, 2004 (Act No. 39 of 2004) (NEM:AQA), as amended in terms of the Batcon Batteries CC, as the applicant intent to submit a Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment (S&EIA), Waste Management Licence Application and Atmospheric Emissions Licence (AEL) Application to simulations secure a Waste Management Licence (WML) and an AEL for the proposed operations and activities at the battery processing and recovery plant, hereafter referred to as “Batcon Batteries”. The aim of this BID is to provide stakeholders and members of the public with background information on the project and an opportunity to register as an Interested and Affected Party (I&AP) and thereby participate in the public participation process, by responding to documents distributed for review pertaining to the proposed operations to be undertaken at Batcon Batteries. According to the DFFE Screening tool the sensitive features indicate that the site is located within 2 km of a Grade II Heritage Site. Please refer to attached screening report. According to the Paleontological Sensitivity only the northern corner was identified to have high paleontological sensitivity, as indicated in the attached screening tool. Batcon Batteries is an existing development, located within a pre-disturbed industrial area (development dated back prior to 1999) according to digital satellite imagery.
