ProposalDescription:

Attachment of a 180mm diameter pipe to the Yellow Woods River Bridge, Acorn Valley, Breidbach, Buffalo City Municipality, Eastern Cape.

Expanded_Motivation:

ProposalDescription: Daku Group Companies (DGC) has been commissioned by the Department of Human Settlements and Buffalo City Municipality for the development of the proposed bulk sewer pipeline and pumpstation at Breidbach, Ward 44 in the Buffalo City Municipal District. Expanded_Motivation: The primary project objective is to provide adequate sanitation services to meet the needs of additional residential units (533 erven) in the Breidbach area while ensuring that the capacity of bulk sanitation infrastructure is not exceeded. A study of the viability of a proposed densification of undeveloped existing erven 2022 – 2579 was undertaken by NAKO ILISO to determine the availability of both bulk and internal infrastructure, to service the proposed re-development of the area and construction of various housing types. Currently the existing maturation ponds serving the area’s sewerage outflow are operating in excess of their capacity and an alternative sewerage outfall for the housing development should be sought. As a result of the lack of capacity there is a moratorium on construction of new housing due to this constraint. This is limiting for the community as there is a demand for housing in the area. There are often service delivery protests in Breidbach because of this. BCM have proposed the option of a sewage pump station and a 3.0km rising main leading up to the main pipe network (located north of Sweetwaters adjacent to Zwelitsha/Bhiso Road) gravitating to the Zwelitsha WWTW. In order to get across the river, the pipeline is proposed to be attached to the Yellow Woods River Bridge at the Acorn Valley Settlement. This bridge is older than 60 years and as such requires a removal permit.
