ProposalDescription:

Demolition of existing house and outbuildings at 42 Rockhaven Road, Cowies Hill, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Drawings WD100, WD101

Expanded_Motivation:

The existing house was built as a small dwelling in the 1950's, date unknown. The house has been added to and divided into units, thereby losing all integrity. The only visible evidence of the original house is a portion of tiled roof, chimney and a few doors and windows. The property and structures are therefore graded as "Not conservation worthy". Rockhaven Road is a narrow road off Josiah Gumede Rd in Cowies Hill, the properties slope steeply to the East. No.42 is on the lower side of the road below street level. Most properties have large gardens and high walls. Adjoining houses are located below the road and not easily visible from the street. Buildings in the street vary in age and stature. The owners live at 40 Rockhaven Rd and wish to extend their garden into the neighbouring property (42). The existing buildings have no architectural or historical value, but the land has potential as a landscaped garden with a botanical conservatory and pavilion.
