Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Demolition of a portion of boundary wall and dwelling at the Narainsamy Temple, 984/1002 Inanda Rd, Portion 2 of erf 195, Rem of 195, and Rem of 165 Newlands East, KwaZulu-Natal, Drawing no. 27545-322-01.

Expanded_Motivation:

The road widening of Inanda Road (M21) impacts the boundary of the Temple. A portion of a low terrace wall to the right of the steps (facing the temple) will be affected. The wall and steps are over the cadastral boundary at that point and therefore fall into municipality-owned land (road reserve). The proposed road levels are 3m below the temple garden level and they propose a 3m high retaining wall of retaining blocks on the cadastral boundary with a new palisade fence on the top edge. At the North gate entrance, a pedestrian ramp has been proposed at the Temple’s request for use during festivals. The existing South vehicular gate and entrance will be shut off and a new driveway built from the back road. The new driveway that will traverse the property will affect an existing house that is not related to the temple complex, therefore included in this application as a proposed demolition. The new driveway does not impact the temple complex and it will provide a much safer route to the parking at the rear of the property.
