ProposalDescription:

The proposed development of ±9km 88kV Eskom Etna – Trade Route power line within the jurisdiction of City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality in the Gauteng Province. The proposed 88kV power line aims to strengthen the distribution network capacity as well as to improve the quality of electricity supply in the region and the national electricity grid at large. The project will also entail decommissioning of the existing 88kV to make way for the proposed new power line which is planned to be built within the same servitude.

Expanded_Motivation:

This project relates to the high increase in development of housing and commercial activities in the area. The proposed new distribution line is planned to create capacity for the expected load. The proposed development is aligned with Eskom’s Integrated Strategic Electricity Planning (ISEP) process, which is intended to provide strategic projections of supply-side and demand-side options to be implemented to meet long-term load forecasts. It provides the framework for Eskom to investigate a wide range of new supply-side and demand-side technologies with a view to optimising investments and returns.
