Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Two Rivers Platinum Mine is seeking an exemption from the 100 m servitude requirement for Burial Grounds.

Expanded_Motivation:

The Two Rivers Platinum Mine received a complaint about a pipeline carrying mining effluent from the processing plant passing close to a Burial Ground located at GPS Coordinates Lat: 24°56'31.03"S, Long: 30° 7'35.39"E, and emptying into tailing storage facility located on the farm Grooteboom 373 KT south of the Mine. The burial ground is routed via Two Dwars River Mine on which the graves are located. Several families affiliated with graves represented by Mr. Caswell Pokwane expressed concern that the construction of the pipeline in proximity to the graves was a cultural offence and in breach of SAHRA regulations for Burial Grounds and Graves which stipulates a 100 m servitude around graves prohibiting development unless the developer seeks a special exemption from the Heritage Authority
