ProposalDescription:

The proposed pipeline will run on the border of Wards 4, 12, 20 and 21 of the Msunduzi Local Municipality and will run adjacent to the Msunduzi River.

Expanded_Motivation:

As the Water Services Authority, Msunduzi Municipality is responsible to provide water and sanitation services to the community. According to the Msunduzi IDP, there are still large areas within Edendale that do not have waterborne sewerage and houses are serviced with conservancy tanks, which the Municipality cleans out on a programmed basis. The Msunduzi Municipality plans to decommission the conservancy tanks, thereby saving in maintenance costs and alleviating the health risk associated with overflowing conservancy tanks. The sewerage reticulation will connect to the outflow from each house in front of the conservancy tanks and will provide waterborne sewerage to households located in Wards 12, 20 & 21 of the Msunduzi Municipality. In certain areas water is provided to RDP standards, i.e. 200m walking distance. The reticulation in these areas will have to be extended to provide yard connections associated with a waterborne flushing sanitation system. It should be noted that sewer network lines have been installed in certain sub-areas in the abovementioned wards, but have not been connected to the larger network or collection sewers and is not yet fully operational. The purpose of this project is thus to ensure that all houses in the project area are connected to a fully operational sewer network.
