ProposalDescription:

The St Croix Motor Museum is home to 70 rare and historic motor vehicles, dating back to the 1920's. The museum is housed in a World war II aeroplane hanger, which is state property and therefore managed by the Department of Public Works. The lease agreement was for a period of 10 years, which expires in march 2013. Mr. Eben de Vos requested a renewal of his lease agreement from PWD. In a letter addressed to Mr. de Vos, PWD stipulated that the lease agreement cannot be renewed due to operational requirements of various client departments to which they have an obligation. The owner has maintained the building and collection according to conservation best practices and are concerned that should his lease not be renewed the collection would be dispersed. The implication of this is that a collection of historically unique cars could be lost to South Africa and future generations. The owner had approach SAHRA for a letter supporting the museum's existence in its current location. This was emailed to PWD Heritage Advisory Services.
