ProposalDescription:

Proposed N12 Petrol Filling Station (South), Portion 12 of the Farm Modder East No. 72 and Remainder of Portion 11 of the Farm Modder East No. 72, Berea, Daveyton, Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality, Gauteng

Expanded_Motivation:

Everfix Adhesives Pty Ltd propose to construct a new N12 Petrol Filling Station (South) adjacent to the N12, located in Ward 72 of the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality. The site is located on Portion 12 of the Farm Modder East No. 72 and Remainder of Portion 11 of the Farm Modder East No. 72 at the following point location, 26° 9'57.78"S 28°28'9.66"E. This site is located approximately 5.3km southeast of Daveyton (as the crow flies) The total development footprint is 1.9 hectares and will be comprised of: • Truck & car filling station; • Fast foods outlet; • Retail aspect; • Public toilets; • Associated roads, parking, loading bays. Both properties associated with this application are currently entirely under commercial agriculture and maize is currently being grown. Therefore, the proposed site does not reflect anything of the indigenous vegetation that would have been present prior to the agriculture. A desktop HIA was compiled by Active Heritage cc due to the development covering and area greater than 5000m2 (report has been included in Appendix G). The results of the HIA indicated that no archaeological and historical sites occur on the site. The area is also not part of any known cultural landscape. However, the footprint is highly sensitive in terms of potential fossil occurrences. A ground survey by a qualified and accredited palaeontologist will be required before any development may proceed.
