ProposalDescription:

OORKANT - SECTION 24G RECTIFICATION OF CLEARING OF SOIL FOR RAISIN DRYING AREA ON KAKAMAS NORTH SETTLEMENT NO. 341, AUGRABIES. DENC Ref: S24G03/04/2021

Expanded_Motivation:

The proposed development is situated approximately 3 kilometres outside of the small town of Augrabies in the Northern Cape, in the Kai! Garib Municipal area. Access to the site is, however, via a gravel road linking with the N14, approximately 30km from Augrabies. During the period from 1976 to 2016 various developments took place on the property, of which most are agricultural developments. This then triggered a Section 24G Application that was undertaken in 2017 and the Environmental Authorisation (S24G03/03/2017) issued in October 2018. In 2019 the applicant cleared a 2ha area on the property for raisin drying and ultimately triggered another Section 24G process without his knowledge. This application is therefore, for the correction of this activity. A New NEMA application will be lodged for an additional 30ha for cultivation and the re-location of the raisin drying area. The development consists of the following: 1. Raisin drying area: In November 2018 no development has taken place yet.The clearance of indigenous vegetation of approximately 2ha took place in 2019.
