Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Permit application for the permanent exportation of South African heritage objects which are to be exhibited at the Emily Hobhouse Museum in Cornwall, United Kingdom

Expanded_Motivation:

We wish to export these items to a museum dedicated to Emily Hobhouse in Cornwall, United Kingdom. Emily Hobhouse was a British humanitarian and pacifist. She is primarily remembered for drawing the attention of the British public to the destitute conditions inside British concentration camps during the South African War of 1899-1902. Emily Hobhouse died in 1926. A museum is in the process of being constructed to honour her legacy in her home town of St Ive in Cornwall, United Kingdom. The items we wish to export consist of pieces of furniture and medals that depict life in South Africa during that time. None of these items are of significant value and none were purchased from museums, nor do they include any items on loan from museums. All were simply acquired from local collectors or on public auctions. All items would be publicly displayed in exhibits in the museum and would not be for sale.
