ProposalDescription:

As part of a joint venture agreement, Pilanesberg Platinum Mines (Pty) Ltd (PPM), the Itereleng Bakgatla Mineral Resources (Pty) Ltd (IBMR) and Richtrau No 123 (Pty) Ltd (Richtrau) propose to develop three separate projects which are situated on neighbouring farms in the Moses Kotane Local Municipality that could function as a combined mining operation in future. The three separate projects that could form the combined mining operation include: • PPM proposes to extend their current open pit mining operation and establish additional support infrastructure. The proposed pit extension will be onto the farms Wilgespruit 2JQ and Portion 1 of Rooderand 46JQ. In addition, as part of the project, it is proposed that a section of the P50-1 road either be closed or diverted around the extended Tuschenkomst pit. • Sedibelo Platinum Mine (Sedibelo) is a developing mine owned and operated by the IBMR, located on the farms Wilgespruit 2JQ, Portion 1 of Rooderand 46JQ, Legkraal 45JQ and Koedoesfontein 42JQ. In broad terms, the approved Sedibelo operation comprises open pit and underground mining, and associated surface infrastructure. It is proposed that the approved infrastructure be repositioned and new infrastructure be established to better suit the proposed combined mining operation. • Richtrau proposes to develop an underground platinum mining operation, the Magazynskraal Platinum Mine, on the farm Magazynskraal 3 JQ and establish related surface infrastructure to support the mining operation. At this stage, two key options are being considered namely a stand-alone mining operation and a combined operation with the neighbouring Sedibelo Mine. SLR Consulting (Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR), previously known as Metago Environmental Engineers (Pty) Ltd, is the independent firm of consultants that has been appointed by the applicant companies to undertake the environmental assessment and related processes.
