Changes to SAHRIS!

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Proposed 50 sow unit operation in Ward 4 of the Umdoni Local Municipality - Maqaqa Piggery

The proposed piggery development will entail producing pigs in a 50 sow unit operation for commercial purposes. The maximum carrying capacity of the pigs and piglets at any given time will be 450 units. There will be no slaughtering of pigs on site. The development will entail the construction of the following: • 3 sow housing units (50 sows will be kept collectively). The dimension of each sow unit will be 30m x 15m. • A building which will comprise of an office, storeroom and ablution. The building dimension will be 30m x 15m. • a lined slurry pit/tank of 50m3 in capacity at a height of 1.8m, diameter of 6m and outer wall. • a separate tank to store the liquid waste for evaporation and a skip bin for the storage of the solid waste which will then be dried and utilised for compost. • an onsite jojo tank will be utilised for the storage of water. This tank will be supplied with water from the existing irrigation infrastructure on site. • the ablution facility will make use of a septic tank and soakaway system which will be located outside the 32m watercourse buffer. • access to the proposed development will be obtained via the existing access road which borders the project area to the east.

Expanded_Motivation: 

The proposed Maqaqa Piggery Development is located within Ward 4 of the Umdoni Local Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal. The total extent of the project area is approximately 2.63 ha with a development footprint of approximately 0.52 ha. The proposed site is currently vacant and was previously utilized for agricultural purposes. There were no environmentally sensitive areas that were identified within the project area other than a drainage line which is located approximately 65.98m west of the site. The Maqaqa Piggery is leasing land from Quembe Farm in the Ncazuka area.
