Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Narratio Films (https://www.narratiofilms.fr/) is a French production company. We make a documentary for “France 3 region” TV Channel. This shooting in Sterkfontein would be part of a documentary about the program “Human Origins in Namibia”. The head of mission is Laurent Bruxelles (who also worked on the dating of Little Foot). Dominic Stratford is part of this team and we followed them to Namibia in December 2016. Their research consists in finding caves open 3 million years ago to learn more about the pre-human fossils of that time. Our purpose is to follow a mission from its origin in order to understand the scientific process. So we also want to show the models of what they are looking for.

Expanded_Motivation:

The purpose of filming at Sterkfontein is to highlight and promote the different tourism activities at Sterkfontein Caves and the Maropeng Visitor Centre as one of Gauteng’s premier tourism destinations. For the shooting in Sterkfontein, we wish to follow Dominic Startford arriving on the site and interview him especially in the cave where the Little Foot fossil has been found and in front of the fossil where it's preserved. To this end, the filming will cover the standard tourism route through the caves, including the tourist platform overlooking the top excavations, the exhibition area at Sterkfontein, the Marapo Casting Facility, the restaurant and the surrounding landscape. The filming at Maropeng will encompass the entire Maropeng complex, including the exhibitions, restaurants, hotel and viewscapes. No filming will take place at the sensitive research areas, as these are always off-limits to non-researchers. Proposed Dates for Filming at Sterkfontein National Heritage Site: We would like to shoot on September 6th and if possible make some illustrations (landscape, situation) on the 7th. Crew: Please note that the following crew will be present at the shoot: The film crew consists of 2 people : William Japhet - cameraman Maurice Ribière - the interviewer Equipment List : Please note that the following equipment will be present at the shoot: We shoot with a Sony FS7 camera on shoulder with a Ronin and as light led battery powered light torches. We have worked in French parietal art caves, so we are aware of the precautions to take in these environments. We have a tripod FS12 for the outdoors shoting.
