Development Type:

ProposalDescription:

Alfred Duma Local Municipality proposed to upgrade Ludimbi gravel road and construct two culverts on two water streams that are crossing along Ludimbi road. Lidimbi road is approximately 2.8 km long and 6m wide. Culvert 1: 1,900mm high and 3,600 mm wide (double cell of 1800 mm wide precast concrete portal culverts. Culvert 2 : 2,600 mm high and 3,600 mm wide (double cell of 1800 mm wide precast concrete portal culverts). Ladysmith, KwaZulu Natal

Expanded_Motivation:

The installation of culverts are in accordance with Alfred Duma Local Municipality's aim to upgrade all low level structures ( structures that are over topped and have become dilapidated during appreciable rainfall events) with structures that can withstand these events without severe deteriorating within the lifespan of the structure. Currently the condition is dilapdated due to low resistance to heavy flow of water. The installation of culverts at the proposed locations arise from Alfred Duma Local Municipality's initiative to upgrade the local roads to improve durability. The existing road will be upgraded and extended in width whereas the new two culverts will be installed on the existing crossing water streams.
