ProposalDescription:

I would like to send 12 radiocarbon samples to two different laboratories. In order to compare methodologies and results of two different laboratories. My plan is to send 6 radiocarbon samples to Poznan Laboratory in Poznan (3 bones and 3 charcoal) and 6 radiocarbon samples to Oxford Laboratory (3 bones and 3 charcoal). The faunal remains are diafisis fragments nonidentifiable and the charcoal remains are small pieces that have been already analyzed. All the material is coming from two different Late Stone Age layers of the site of Marshill (Eastern Cape, South Africa).

Expanded_Motivation:

The site of Marshill is located in the Stormberg area (geographic coordinates: 31.101966° S, 27.279277° E). The site is a long rockshelter. The sedimentary deposit seems deep. On the surface abundant stone tools associated to the MSA and the Later Stone Age are found. Besides, rock art paintings can be found along the wall of the rock shelter. In December 2020 I directed the first archaeological campaign on this site, after obtaining a permit from Eastern Cape heritage agency. In that excavation I found several layers attributed to the Late Stone Age. Some of the materials of those layers I would like to date it with this application.
