Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Relocation of 7 graves from Somkhele Mine in the KwaQubuka area

PGS Heritage (Pty) Ltd and North Coast Funerals has been appointed by Somkhele Coal Mine to assist with the relocation of seven (7) graves that will be affected by mining in the area mentioned above. The excavated human remains from the graves will be relocated to the Northdale Cemetery in the Mtubatuba Local Municipality.

As mentioned above, the graves will be relocated to a municipal cemetery in Mtubatuba and and the Mpangeni Tribal Authority. STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT The next-of kin of the affected graves were contacted by Somklele Mine and the need for the graves to be relocated has been explained to them. They consequently gave written permission (in the form of affidavits) for the graves to be relocated. Additional to this, the following action were taken: • All the graves were marked and numbered; • A graves register was compiled; • Bilingual site notices announcing the intention to relocate the graves were erected at the grave sites; • Bilingual (isiZulu and English) newspaper notices announcing the intention to relocate the graves were published twice in the Zululand Observer (on 29 May and 5 June 2017); It must be mentioned that Somkhele Mine has been in continuous contact with the next-of-kin of the affected graves and they are fully aware of the relocation process. As part of of the stakeholder engagement process, the following persons registered as Interested and Affected parties: • Vusumuzi Ernest Ntshali PERMITS AND PERMISSIONS We are also in the process of applying for permits and permissions from the following government departments and compliance agencies: • The South African Police Services will be informed of the proposed relocation. They will also be informed of the date of relocation at least 7 days in advance. • Mpukunyoni Traditional Council • The Mtubatuba Local Municipality – Permission submitted; • The Umkhanyakude District Health Municipality. (Application dependant on receiving permission from the Mtubatuba Local Municipality); • The Kwa-Zulu Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) (Application dependent on receiving the permits from your office and the Umkhanyakude District Health Municipality);
