Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Repairs to pedestrian bridge, Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

Expanded_Motivation:

Repairs on a pedestrian bridge need to be done due to the recent flash floods in Pietermaritzburg. This bridge was damaged by construction equipment that was swept by the recent floods and minor works needs to be done for safety reasons. currently the bridge has been closed off from public use due to the damages. The proposed repairs are on a pedestrian bridge in Pietermaritzburg on Prince Charles Drive in the suburb of Scottsville. The proposed repairs to the pedestrian bridge are very much needed due to safety and heritage reasons. At the current state the bridge is not safe to use which means pedestrians have to use alternative route to get to Alex road. this Pedestrian bridge crosses Msunduzi river and connects people from town to near by facilities like the Park and Police Station. Repairs on the bridge need to be done on the undercarriage where steel pylons broke off. these need to be replaced with new one. Tie rods were bend during the impact with the equipment so these need to be removed, straightened in a workshop and replaced. Bracing between the main walkway bream broke loose when the bolts came off so new bolts need to be sourced and replaced. There is some minor brick work damage and cracks that need to be fixed.
