ProposalDescription:

The Shamrock Road -Leeuwpoort J8 pipeline needs to be replaced as soon as possible as it was installed in 1963. It runs along Main Reef Road, from Shamrock Road to the Impala Park meter, and then to Leeuwpoort. J8 pipeline comprises of a steel section approximately 13 745 meters in length and is coated with butimen. The outside diameter is 623 mm and the wall thickness is 6 mm. Most of the areas that are supplied by the J8 pipeline are fairly saturated in terms of the development of land. This pipeline runs through built up areas. Due to the emergency of the pipeline construction began before environmental authorization was approved, this means Section 24G of the National Environmental Managemet Act 107 of 1998 application had to be conducted. The proposed area is situated in Boksburg and Germiston at Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality in Gauteng.
