Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

ProposalDescription: 

Environmental Assurance (Pty) Ltd (ENVASS) as independent environmental consultant was appointed by Samancor Chome Limited (ECM Lwala) to undertake the environmental authorisation process for the inclusion of the area known as Sekgoshi Hill and Surbiton into the active mining area. The areas are located within the Sekhukhune District Municipality and the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality and is located near the town of Burgersfort, Limpopo Province.

Expanded_Motivation: 

Current approved Mines Works Programme (“MWP”), Environmental Management Programme (“EMPr”) and Water Use Licence (“WUL”); were approved of the following mining activities: Opencast mining Two opencast sections were established on both sides of Sekghosi Hill (North pit located on part of the farm Forest Hill 117KT and South pit on part of the farm Clapham 118 KT). The two opencasts consist of an area of 32.15482 Hectares. Underground mining Two underground mining areas, Lwala underground No.1 area located on the farms Surbiton 115 KT, Hackney 116 KT, Forest Hill 117 KT and Clapham 118 KT and constitutes 1 705 Hectares in extent. Lwala underground No.2 area located on the farms Surbiton 115 KT and Twickenham 114 KT and constitutes 1116 Hectares in extent. Application for new activities not in the approved MWP, EMPr and WUL Sekgoshi Hill Opencast Mining Area Samancor Chrome, Lwala section is proposing to extend the opencast mining activity to include mining of Sekgoshi Hill, which is located on the farm Clapham 118 KT and on a part of the farm Surbiton 115 KT, which was not part of the current approved MWP, EMPr and WUL.
