Development Type:

ProposalDescription:

Eskom Holdings North West Operating Unit has been requested by Greater Taung Local Municipality to electrify 70 houses at Seweding Extention village. The area is flat in slope with a portion that has sandy soil while the other portion is rocky. The houses to be electrified are mainly made of tin while others are made by cement bricks. The surrounding vegetation cover is grass, short srubs and short trees that are very scattered. The area has already been transformed to residential with well established streets. The proposed powerline will run in these streets parallel to yards fences. The village has exisiting electricity and some of the houses to be electrified are situated in between electrified houses, therefore they just need to be connected. Other infrastructure in the area include tar road, gravel road, pit toilets and water pipes. The area is situated in north west province.

Expanded_Motivation:

The proposed development is a linear activity and will entail construction of medium voltage power line of +/- 800m in total and low voltage line to connect houses of which some part will share the structures with a medium voltage line. Due to the extent of the line which is more than 300m, section 38 (1) of the National Heritage Resources Act, 25 of 1999 is triggered. During survey, no heritage/archaeological or any kind of fossils were recorded on site (see attached environmental screening document).
