Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Sibanye-Stillwater: Akanani Mining (Pty) Ltd

In June 2019, Sibanye-Stillwater acquired the entire capital share of Lonmin Plc. Lonmin’s assets included the Marikana Platinum Group Metals (PGM) mining operations and associated retreatment, smelter, base metal refinery and precious metal refinery assets in South Africa.

Expanded_Motivation: 

The acquisition also included Akanani Mining (Pty) Ltd and the Prospecting Right held by Akanani in Mokopane. 26% of Akanani Mining (Pty) Ltd is held by Incwala Resources Propriety Limited and 74% held by Rustenburg Eastern Operations (Pty) Ltd. Rustenburg Eastern Operations (Pty) Ltd is a 74% subsidiary of Afriore Precious Metals Holding Incorporated which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sibanye-Stillwater. The proposed Akanani project is located 25 km northwest from Mokopane, Limpopo Province immediately to the west and down-dip of the Anglo Platinum Mogalakwena Mine. In terms of the converted prospecting right (LP30/5/1/1/2/806PR), Akanani has the right to prospect for Platinum Group Metals, Gold, Silver, Nickel, Copper and Cobalt on the farms Moordkopje 813 LR and Zwartfontein 814 LR in the Mokopane District. It is the intention of Akanani Mining (Pty) Ltd to complete its Mining Right application on this area, supported by a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Process as to commence mine development, while further undertaking prospecting activities on this area. The proposed surface infrastructure will be located on a portion of the farm Zwartfontein 814 LR whilst the proposed tailings storage facility will be located on a portion of the farm Sandsloot 236 KR. The surface ownership on the farms vests with the State in terms of title deeds T2080/1887 (Zwartfontein), T1149/1885 (Moordkopje) and T2463/1887 (Sandsloot). The surface infrastructure for the proposed project will consist of a concentrator; shaft system; stockpiles; waste rock dump; office buildings; change houses; backfill plant, ventilation shaft and fan and Waste Water Treatment Works. The final depth for the sunken shaft will be approximately 1450m below surface while the furthest mining depth will be at approximately 1650m below surface. Notice is hereby given in terms of the regulations promulgated under Section 22 and 39 of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Act, 2002 (Act 28 of 2002) (MPRDA) as well as Section 24 (5) and 44 of the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998) (NEMA) that it is the intention of Sibanye-Stillwater, Akanani Mining (Pty) Ltd to undertake a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Process in support of underground mining. Parallel to this process, a Water Use Licence application process will be undertaken in terms of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act 36 of 1998) for water uses associated with the mining operation as well as a Waste Management Licence application in terms of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 59 of 2008) for the Waste Rock Dump and Tailings Storage Facility. Akanani Mining (Pty) Ltd is the holder of two approved Water Use Licenses allowing for the use of water for mining purposes from the Doorndraai Dam: License No 27/2/1/A761/2/1 dated 23 December 2008 which permits the use of 1 743 322 m3 of water per annum and License No 01/A61G/A/2035 dated 27 November 2012 which permits the use of 412 920 m3 of water per annum. A 60 km pipeline will be constructed in favor of the use within the road servitude of the Roads Agency Limpopo Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Process in support of underground mining. Parallel to this process, a Water Use Licence application process will be undertaken for water uses associated with the mining operation as well as a Waste Management Licence application for the Waste Rock Dump and Tailings Storage Facility.
