ProposalDescription:

Proposed development of a small-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) facility including powerline to supplement processing power requirements for the adjacent Heineken Sedibeng Brewery, located within Sedibeng in the Gauteng Province

Expanded_Motivation:

Sedibeng Solar PV Project (Pty) Ltd is proposing the development of a small-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) facility to supplement processing power requirements for the adjacent Heineken Sedibeng Brewery, located within Sedibeng in the Gauteng Province. The Heineken Sedibeng Brewery is accessible directly off the R550, where it forms part of the Kliprivier Business Park. The PV facility will be 19.9 MW and will be 19.9 ha in extent and will be located on Graceview EXT 3, Erf 244 (Title Deed: T20324/2018), and a small section of Graceview Ext 1, Erf 243 (Title Deed: T716/2019). The project aims to reduce the plant’s reliance on the national Eskom power grid and reduce operational costs through utilising a sustainable energy solution. By virtue of adaptive design (to ensure no thresholds are exceeded), and by virtue of the facility being in an urban area and being a PV facility, the project does not require a Basic Assessment process. The registration process however will be conducted under the Gauteng Province Environmental Management Framework (GPEMF) registration process (this form) to register eligible activities under the GPEMF. The facility will have the following specifications: Phase 1: 2.5ha surface area with maximum generation capacity; 1MW PV plant; 400 V distribution line; Phase 2: 17.4 ha surface area and 18.9 MW nominal generation capacity; 11kV distribution line Ultimately, the facility is to connect to the Heineken-owned substation located within the Heineken Sedibeng brewing facility, in order to supply that facility with supplementary power for operations. The substation is located on Erf 243, portion 0 in Graceview Ext 1.
