Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Permit Application to conduct test excavations for one grave in an area currently affected by opencast coal mining activities. The possible grave is located in the same area as Optimum Colliery Grave Relocation Project at their Kwaggafontein North Operations on the farm Bosmansspruit 459 IS, Mpumalanga Province.

Expanded_Motivation:

PGS Heritage (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by Optimum Coal Mine (Pty) Ltd to conduct test excavations in an area currently undisturbed but adversely affected by the coal mining expansion of their Kwaggafontein North Operations. The location of the grave was pointed out by interested parties during the Optimum Colliery Grave Relocation Project. There is no current family for the possible grave that is located on the Farm Bosmansspruit 459 IS, even though it was included in the intensive stakeholder engagement process conducted for the Optimum Grave Relocation Project. If positive evidence of a grave is located, a relocation permit application will follow to exhume and relocate the grave accordingly.
