ProposalDescription:

Proposed test excavation and exhumation of two possible graves, located on Portion 112 of the farm Onderstepoort 266 JR, Soshanguve, City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng Province.

Expanded_Motivation:

The property, including a single grave and a homestead structure (with possible infant graves), will be affected adversely by construction and development activities for the establishment of a proposed Mixed Use Township Establishment: Onderstepoort X34, A, B, C & D. We have conducted an intensive process of social consultation in order to identify the buried individuals and to obtain permission for exhumation and re-interment from the affected families, communities and other bona fide interested and affected parties. This intensive process commenced on 17 July 2015 with the placement of bilingual (English and Sepedi) site notices at the graves. The site notices provided a 60 day period for family members to contact PGS Heritage. In addition, bilingual (English and Sepedi) newspaper notices were published in the Pretoria News and in the Daily Sun newspapers on Friday, 9 October 2015. To date, no-one claiming to be family of the graves has contacted PGS. However, the social consultation process will continue until the exhumation has been completed.
