ProposalDescription:

The Voortrekker pulpit is located at the Church of the Covenant, Church Street in Pietermaritzburg. Also known as the Voortrekker church. The main objective for the site visit, was to obtain a condition assessment of the mentioned heritage object. The HPU went to inspect and ensure that the object is at the right site, under the correct custodians and supervision on the 26th of November 2018.

Expanded_Motivation:

The Voortrekker pulpit was manufactured from various local timbers between 1840 and 1841 by Nagel and Heine in the first year after the establishment of the church of VOW. In 1861, it was moved to the new Voortrekker church, but it was returned to the church of the VOW, now the Voortrekker museum. In 1955, this neo gothic octagonal pulpit which is 4m high, consists of three parts; The plinth, the lectern and the canopy. The heritage object is the only declared one at the site of the church and was declared in 1994. In conclusion, it is good to have object inspections, to ensure that they are not misused or broken or stolen.
