Changes to SAHRIS!

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Canyon Resources (Pty) Ltd. (Canyon) is in the process of applying for an Integrated Environmental Authorisation in terms of Regulations GNR. 983, 984, and 985, published in Gazette no. 38282 of 14 December 2014 (Listing Notices 1, 2 and 3) (amended in 2021), under the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998), as amended, and the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 56 0f 2008) for the proposed Welgedacht Balloon Siding and associated conveyor belt (located on Portion 19 of the farm Palmietkuilen 241IR). The siding is to be situated on Portions 10, 32, 51, 55, and 57 of the farm Geigerle 238 IR; and Portions 9 and 19 of the farm Palmietkuilen 241 IR within the Gauteng Province. Notice is furthermore hereby given in terms of Section 40 of the National Water Act (NWA), 1998 (Act No. 36 of 1998), that Canyon proposes to lodge an application for various water uses listed under Section 21 (Section 21 a, b, c, g, and i) of the NWA.

Canyon Resources (Pty) Ltd. (Canyon) is in the process of applying for an Integrated Environmental Authorisation in terms of Regulations GNR. 983, 984, and 985, published in General Notice 38282 of 14 December 2014 (Listing Notices 1, 2 and 3), under the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998), as amended, and the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 56 0f 2008) for the proposed Welgedacht Balloon Siding and associated conveyor belt. The siding is to be situated on Portions 10, 32, 51, 55, and 57 of the farm Geigerle 238 IR; and Portions 9 and 19 of the farm Palmietkuilen 241 IR within the Gauteng Province. The conveyor belt is proposed to be located on Portion 19 of the farm Palmietkuilen 241 IR. Elemental Sustainability (Pty) Ltd (Elemental) has been appointed by the Applicant as the Environmental Assessment Practitioner (“EAP”) to manage the application processes for the Environmental Authorisation, the Water Use License and the Waste Management License, which together would enable the Applicant to construct and operate the siding. The Welgedacht Balloon Siding requires the following authorisations: • Environmental Authorisation from the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) in terms of the NEMA. The proposed project incorporates several activities listed in the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (EIA Regulations): Listing Notice 1, 2 and 3as amended. The EIA regulations applicable in this study, are the EIA Regulations, 2014 published in GN No. 982 of 4 December 2014, as amended; • Waste Management License (WML) from the DMRE in terms of the NEM:WA. The proposed project incorporates waste management activities listed in GNR 921 of 29 November 2013, as amended. Notice is also hereby given in terms of Section 40 of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act No. 36 of 1998), that Canyon Resources (Pty) Ltd. proposes to lodge an application for various water uses as listed in terms of Section 21 (NWA) for the Welgedacht Balloon Siding. The Welgedacht Balloon Siding will be situated approximately 9 km east of Springs, Gauteng Province in the Lesedi Local Municipality. The central co-ordinates for the proposed Project are approximately: 26°14'1.90"S and 28°31'57.90"E. The proposed project area is presented below. Access to the project area can be reached by means of the D1255. The siding will be used for transportation of coal from various surrounding coal mines.
