Permits

Conditions:

1. This permit is issued for the excavation of the East Fort. The aim is to determine the size of the fort, the building material used and its style. The excavation will focus on the underground section of the fort and will include mapping of the structure.  
2. If Dr van Vollenhoven is not to be present on the site at all times, SAHRA must be provided with the names and qualifications of the authorised representatives.
3. Adequate recording methods as specified in the Regulations and Guidelines pertaining to the National Heritage Resources Act must be employed.  Note that the position of all excavations and objects collected must be marked on a plan of site.
4. A standard site record form must be lodged with the Fort Klapperkop Heritage site.
5. All archaeological material collected and excavated, as well as field notes and records, will be curated by the  Fort Klapperkop Heritage site.
6. A final report on the results of the excavations and analyses must be submitted to SAHRA on or before the end of May 2014.
7. Reprints of all published papers or copies of theses and/or reports resulting from this work must be lodged with SAHRA.
8. If a published report has not appeared within three years of the lapsing of this permit, the report required in terms of the permit will be made available to researchers on request.
9. It is the responsibility of Dr van Vollenhoven to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit, and conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.
10. It is the responsibility of Dr van Vollenhoven to fill in excavations and protect sites during and after excavation to the satisfaction of SAHRA and the landowner.
11. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
