Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Launch for the new version of SAHRIS occurred on Monday the 30th of October 2023.

  1. SAHRA has noted the names of crew on site during filming to be as follows: Ms Sally Clark (Content Producer), Mr Thabo Mtshweni and Mr Anthony Ndabezitha (Cameramen), Mr Sifiso Twala (Soundman), Ms Julia Masemola (Production Manager) and Ms Busi Khuzwayo (Production Coordinator). 
  2. Ms Stephanie Baker and Ms Zandile Ncube will be on site participating in the filming. 
  3. SAHRA understands that Dr Colin Menter, permit holder for the excavation of the site, will be monitoring the filming activities. Such monitoring should take place at all times when your crew is on site.
  4. Dr Menter must be consulted prior to activities commencing on site to advise the crew on any archaeologically sensitive areas which must be avoided.
  5. The amount of traffic, i.e. numbers of people on site, should be minimized as much as possible to avoid excessive disturbance of the site.
  6. A report on activities related to the permit must be submitted to SAHRA on or before the end of May 2014. SAHRA reserves the right to withhold further permits if a report is not received or is not satisfactory.
  7. Copies of documentaries/films resulting from this work must be lodged with SAHRA.
  8. It is the responsibility of Urban Brew Studios to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit, and the applicant is responsible for ensuring that they have an understanding with the landowner concerning the number of visitors and workers; speed limits on access roads; possible prohibitions on off-road driving; size, type and number of vehicles permitted; possible prohibitions on trespassing beyond the site; disturbing fauna, flora or substrate; appropriate hours of visiting and working on the site; use of electricity and water; lighting fires and the prevention of uncontrolled fires and any fencing necessary to protect livestock. Conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.
  9. Urban Brew Studios shall be responsible for the activities and impacts of all their employees under their supervision and for their compliance with the terms of the permit.
  10. It is the responsibility of Urban Brew Studios to protect sites during and after filming and to the satisfaction of SAHRA and the landowner.
  11. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
  12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit upon notice to the permit holder.
