Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Launch for the new version of SAHRIS occurred on Monday the 30th of October 2023.

  • SAHRA has noted that crew on site will be composed by a Director, Mr Graham Townsley; two Directors of Photography, one of whom will be the chief DP Mr Willem van de Heever; an additional camera person and “fixer”, Ms Rachelle Keeling; a sound person and possibly a grip.
  • Either Prof. Berger or a senior scientist, appointed by Prof. Berger himself, will be on site at all times during filming. 
  • Prof. Berger or the senior scientist must be consulted prior to activities commencing on site to advise the crew on any sensitive areas which must be avoided.
  • The amount of traffic, i.e. numbers of people on site, should be minimized as much as possible to avoid excessive disturbance of the site.
  • A report on activities related to this permit must be submitted to SAHRA on or before the end of November 2014. SAHRA reserves the right to withhold further permits if a report is not received or is not satisfactory.
  • Copies of the filming and reports resulting from this work must be lodged with SAHRA.
  • It is the responsibility of Prof. Berger to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit, and to be responsible for ensuring that any concern of the landowner is addressed regarding the number of visitors and workers; speed limits on access roads; possible prohibitions on off-road driving; size, type and number of vehicles permitted; possible prohibitions on trespassing beyond the site; disturbing fauna, flora or substrate; appropriate hours of visiting and working on the site; use of electricity and water; lighting fires and the prevention of uncontrolled fires and any fencing necessary to protect livestock. Conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.
  • The permit holder shall be responsible for the activities and impacts of all colleagues and employees under his supervision and for their compliance with the terms of the permit.
  • It is the responsibility of the permit holder to protect sites during and after filming to the satisfaction of SAHRA and the landowner.
  • It is the responsibility of the permit holder to obtain any other authorization or permit which may be required under any other applicable legislation. 
  • SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
  • SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit upon notice to the permit holder.
