This permit is issued to Dr Julius Pistorius for the recovery of human remains and excavation of the associated archaeological midden, which were disturbed during the establishment of a power line in Marulaneng Village, Limpopo.
Conditions:
- If Dr Pistorius is not to be present on the site at all times then SAHRA must be provided with the names and qualifications of the authorised representatives.
- Adequate recording methods as specified in the Regulations and Guidelines pertaining to the National Heritage Resources Act must be employed. Note that the position of all excavations, objects and human remains collected must be marked on a plan of site.
- A standard site record form must be lodged with the Department of Anatomy of the University of Pretoria.
- All archaeological material collected and excavated, as well as field notes and records, will be curated by the Department of Anatomy of the University of Pretoria.
- Should a facility for the storage of human remains become available in the Limpopo Province, all material recovered under this permit should be transported to a provincial or local museum within Limpopo.
- An annual progress report on the results of the excavations and analyses must be submitted to SAHRA by the end of May 2015. A final report is due on or before the end of May 2016.
- Reprints of all published papers or copies of theses and/or reports resulting from this work must be lodged with SAHRA.
- If a published report has not appeared within three years of the lapsing of this permit, the report required in terms of the permit will be made available to researchers on request.
- It is the responsibility of the permit holder to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit, and conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.
- It is the responsibility of the permit holder to fill in excavations and protect sites during and after excavation to the satisfaction of SAHRA and the landowner.
- SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
- SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
