Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Permanent export of material held at Wits for ancient DNA analyses

This permit is issued to Dr Zipfel and Prof. Jakobsson for the permanent export of sampled material from three buffalo teeth and and six hominin fragments from Plovers Lake and three equid teeth and seven hominin fragments from Tobias Cave to undertake DNA analyses at the Department of Evolutionary Biology of the University of Uppsala, Sweden.

Conditions:

  1. The samples must be clearly marked with accession numbers.
  2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site, and the name and address of Dr Zipfel and/or Prof. Jakobsson.
  3. The material must be hand carried or sent via a reputable professional courier service unless written instructions to the contrary have been received from the repository, the Evolutionary Studies Institute at the University of Witwatersrand.
  4. The samples must be kept for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.
  5. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than Prof. Mattias Jakobsson at the Department of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Uppsala without the consent of SAHRA.
  6. The analyses of the four human teeth and of the ten human bone fragments may only be undertaken once the results of the analyses on the faunal material are considered successful for the extraction of ancient DNA. 
  7. SAHRA must be informed when the analyses on the human material commences.
  8. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before the end of October 2015.
  9. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA. 
  10. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
  11. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
