Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

For temporary export of the following 3 objects: TM180 cranium, TM180 lower jaw (consisting of 2 items)

This permit refers to cranial material (cranium & lower jaw) of Thrinaxodon from an unknown site in the Karoo of probably Early Triassic age. It is fragile as it had previously been acid prepared and has a full set of upper and lower teeth, and is therefore considered useful for scanning for the study of the teeth microstructure in burrowing cynodonts.

The permit is issued to Dr. Heidi Fourie, curator of the Karoo Section, Department of Vertebrates at Ditsong: Museums of South Africa, in collaboration with Dr. Fernando Abdala (Evolutionary Studies Institute, University of the Witwatersrand), Dr. Vincent Fernandez (ESRF - The European Synchrotron, Grenoble, France) and Dr. Bruce Rubidge (Evolutionary Studies Institute, University of the Witwatersrand) to export 3 objects (2 of which belong to the lower jaw) for scanning of the teeth at the Synchrotron facility in Grenoble, France.


Conditions:

1. Only the selected a representative of the material stored in the collection may be exported. The bulk of the material remains in the collection of the Ditsong Museum.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the Ditsong Museum.

3. The material must be hand carried by Drs. F. Abdala or B. Rubidge.

4. Dr. Fernando Abdala (Evolutionary Studies Institute, University of the Witwatersrand) is responsible for the analysis of the material and its transport to and from the above mentioned institutions/collections.

5. Dr. F. Abdala is responsible for the cost of the return of the specimens .

6. The samples must be kept for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

7. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

8. No destructive analysis or sampling may be undertaken.

9. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before 30 April 2016.

10. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

11. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

13. The material must be returned by the date the permit expires.
