Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

For temporary export of the following object: BPI/1/4597 Galesaurus planiceps skull and lower jaw (2 pieces)

This permit refers to cranial material of Galesaurus that was found in the Lower Triassic of Fairydale, Bethulie in the Free State Province. Synchrotron scanning is the only non-invasive method available to detect the detailed amount of information needed to study the teeth microstructure. This technology is not available in South Africa.

The permit is issued to Dr Fernando Abdala, Senior Research Officer at the Evolutionary Studies Institute of the University of the Witwatersrand, in collaboration with Dr Vincent Fernandez, European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, and Dr Bruce Rubidge, Evolutionary Studies Institute of the University of the Witwatersrand, to export the skull and lower jaw (two pieces) for scanning and analysing the teeth microstructure of the cynodont Galesaurus planiceps at the European Synchrotron Radiation facility in Grenoble, France.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representative of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the BPI.

3. The material must be hand-carried by Dr Fernando Abdala.

4. Dr Fernando Abdala is responsible for the analysis of the material and its transport to and from the above mentioned institutions/collections.

5. Dr Fernando Abdala is responsible for the cost of the return of the specimens.

6. The samples must be kept for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

7. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

8. No destructive analysis or sampling may be undertaken.

9. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before 31 May 2016.

10. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

11. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

13. The material must be returned by the date the permit expires.
