Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Temporary export of museum objects for the South Africa exhibition at the British Museum

For temporary export of seventeen (16) archaeological items:

SAM-AA 1617 (rock art panel, 2 pieces), SAM-AA 8987/001-012 (12 beads), SAM-AA 6008 (stone depicting human figures), UCT701/1 (pottery sculpture), ACC225 (stone with patina)

The permit is issued to Dr Wendy Black, Iziko Museums of South Africa, Cape Town, in collaboration with Neil MacGregor, The British Museum, UK, to temporarily export the sixteen items outlined above for the purpose of exhibition in The British Museum, UK, from 1 September 2016 to 31 March 2017. The specimens are hosted by the Iziko Museums of South Africa in Cape Town.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the respective Museum, in which it is accessioned.

3. Neil MacGregor (The British Museum) is responsible for the transport to and from the above mentioned facility.

4. Neil MacGregor (The British Museum) is responsible for the cost of the return of the material.

5. The specimens must be kept for exhibition purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

6. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

8. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before the 31 March 2018.

10. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

11. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

13. The material must be returned by the date the permit expires.
