Permits

For the destruction of Late Iron Age Site 9 to be directly impacted by mining activities that have been documented and mitigated (sites 7, 8, 19, 20, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28) under permit 80/10/03/009/51, at Booysendal Platinum Mine, at approximately S25° 05' 55.5", E30° 01' 00.1". The proposed area is located on the farm Booysendal 43JT, near Steelpoort, in the Steelpoort District, Mpumalanga Province.

Site 9 consists of a poorly preserved Late Iron Age Stone walled site of low significance according to an AIA from 2009 and a survey report from 2016 by Jaco van der Walt.

Conditions: 

1. The permit holder must be on site at all times during the destruction process.
2. Should additional sites be uncovered during the destruction phase or once mining activities commence, work in the area should cease and the SAHRA should be notified immediately.
3. A report must be submitted to SAHRA on or before April 2017. SAHRA reserves the right to withhold further permits if progress is not deemed satisfactory.
4. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
5. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
