Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Application to export KEH-1 shell samples for isotope analysis

The permit is issued to Dr. Thalassa Matthews (Iziko Museums of Cape Town), on behalf of Dr. Naomi Cleghorn (University of Texas at Arlington) and Dr. Emma Loftus (University of Oxford, UK), to temporarily export 11 shell samples from the site Knysna Eastern Heads Cave 1 (KEH-1) for isotope analysis at Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art, University of Oxford, UK. The material is currently housed at the Munro House, Diaz Museum, Mossel Bay.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the Diaz Museum.

3. The material must be hand-carried or couriered via FedEx to University of Oxford and returned by 31 August 2018.

4. Dr. Emma Loftus is responsible for the analysis of the material and Dr. Naomi Cleghorn for its transport to and from the above mentioned institution.

5. The samples must be used for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

6. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

7. Destructive analysis or sampling may be undertaken.

8. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before 31 August 2018.

9. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

10. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

11. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

12. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
