History: This property forms part of two rows of double-storeyed Victorian terrace houses which stand back to back on a block shared by the Mowbray Presbyterian Church. Each row consists of six units which are semi-detached. Besides slight variations in the filigreed cast-iron decorations and that the first and last house in Albert Road each have an ornate triangular pedimented gable with cartouche and swagging, the structural formations of these houses are identical. All the houses have plaster rustication in horizontal T as well as plaster mouldings on the separating walls and on the window and door surrounds. Each unit has a balcony and verandah decorated with filigreed cast-iron pillars, brackets, spandrels and railings. Although the balcony of No. 9 Albert Road is enclosed at present, the Council is at present trying to encourage the owner to restore the balcony to its original cast-iron image.
This property forms an integral part of two rows of double-storeyed seni detached terrace houses erected by William Gustavus Cranko during the late 1880’s. Each terraced row consists of six units which stand back to back in Grove and Albert Roads. With the exception of the first and last house in Albert Road, which have ornate triangular gables, the houses are all identical and form a unique group of late-nineteenth century houses.
Visual Description: These nine houses form part of a unique block consisting of two terraced rows of identical late Victorian double storeyed semi-detached houses that date from the 1880s. The first and last houses in Albert Road have ornate triangular pedimented gables with cartouches, while the other buildings are without gables.
