ShortDescription:

By virtue of the powers vested in the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) in
terms of section 27 (5) of the National Heritage Resources Act, 25 of 1999, SAHRA hereby
declares the grave and Memorial Precinct of Mr. Oliver Reginald Tambo and Mrs. Adelaide
Frances Tambo as a National Heritage Site.

FullDescription:

Mr. Oliver Reginald Tambo a teacher, lawyer, freedom fighter and an internationalist and
President of the African National Congress (1967-1991). He laid foundations and led the
external chapter of the ANC from 195 8-91 and brought about the atrocities of the apartheid
regime into the attention of the international community.
"It is our responsibility to break down barriers of division and create a country where there will
be neither Whites nor Blacks, just South Africans, free and united in diversity."
He initiated campaigns for its diplomatic, cultural and economic isolation. He built the ANC
into a formidable mass liberation movement, regional anti-colonial resistance army, international
anti- apartheid movement and a highly sought after diplomatic political negotiating team.
