Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Launch for the new version of SAHRIS occurred on Monday the 30th of October 2023.

Directions: 

800m south of Agtersfontein farm/dam, taking left fork of track. Large isolated outcrop next to track (obscured by thick bushes) with tunnel shelter with rock art.

SiteComments: 

Shelter forms a low tunnel, now used to store tractor/car tyres and farm equipment parts. Inside of shelter difficult to access due to tyres. Artefacts in gravelly wash in front of and behind shelter tunnel. Typical LSA: hornfels (heavily patinated/degraded), CCS, quartz. Thumbnail scrapers and bipolar cores/pièces esquillées. Broken lower grindstone. Rock art panels around outside of outcrop and inside shelter. Row of five burnt wooden pegs stuffed into crack in rock
