Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

The permit is issued to Prof. David Pearce (Rock Art Research Institute, University of the Witwatersrand), in collaboration with Dr. Adelphine Bonneau (Université du Québec à Chicoutimi), and Prof. Ruth Ann Armitage (Eastern Michigan University) to temporarily export 14 painted flakes from Mount Tyndall 2, Maclear District, Eastern Cape, for sampling at Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, Canada and thereafter to Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan for oxygen plasma extraction and radiocarbon analysis. The material is currently housed at the Rock Art Research Institute, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the materials stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site and the name and address of the permit holder or the curating institution.

3. The material will be couriered to Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, Canada.

4. Dr. Adelphine Bonneau and Prof. Ruth Ann Armitage will be responsible for the analysis of the material and Prof. David Pearce for its transport to and from the above mentioned institutions/collections.

5. Microsampling is permitted under this permit (3240).

6. The samples must be used for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

7. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

8. SAHRA must be notified in writing of the second phase of analysis and subsequent transfer of the materials from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, Canada to Eastern Michichan University, Ypsilanti.

9. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be emailed to apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za before 30 April 2023 using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports.

10. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

11. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

13. Should any legal proceedings arise with regard to this permit or the transport and loan of the material, these proceedings must be addressed within in the South African legislative framework.

14. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
