Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

This permit is issued to Dr. Keneiloe Molopyane in collaboration with Prof. Lee R. Berger for incorporation of Filming as a documentation technique for research activities at Gladysvale National Heritage Site (NHS) in conjuction with issued permit (3317). Filming will focus on Phase 2 of the renewed research at Gladysvale NHS led by Dr. K. Molopyane.


1. Crew members on site during filming will be Dr. Keneiloe Molapynae (Permit Holder), Prof Lee R. Berger (Co-Permit Holder), Dirk van Rooyen (Explorer and Film Maker), and Bonita De Klerk (Film Maker) all from the University of the Witwatersrand.

2. Monitoring and supervision will be done by the Permit Holders.

3. Filming will take place in the Main Chamber and Lower Chamber 1. No filming will be done in Chamber 2 of Gladysvale NHS.

4. Filming equipment consists of basic filming equioment Cameras, tripod stands, and lighting. No addition and alterations will be made to the site to create a conducive environemnt for filming

5. Filming will take place for the duration of the research project until the experitation of permit 3317 (30/09/2024).

6. The amount of traffic, i.e. numbers of people on site, should be minimised as much as possible to avoid excessive disturbance of the site.

7. A report on activities related to the permit must be submitted to SAHRA on or before the 30 Septemmber 2024. SAHRA reserves the right to withhold further permits if a report is not received or is not satisfactory.

8. Copies of the filming resulting from this work must be lodged with SAHRA on or before the 31 December 2024.

9. SAHRA acknowledges the submitted landowner permission for research at the Gladysvale.

10. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

11. This permit is subject to a general appeal and may be suspended should an appeal against the decisions be received by SAHRA within 14 days from the date of the permit. SAHRA may not be held responsible for any costs or losses incurred in the event of the suspension or retraction of this permit.

12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit upon notice to the permit holder.
