Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Launch for the new version of SAHRIS occurred on Monday the 30th of October 2023.

The permit is issued to Prof. Nicholas Conard (University of Tübingen) and Dr. Veerle Rots (Liége University) for the temporary export of  MSA lithic material from Sibhudu Cave, KwaZulu-Natal. The materials are currently housed at  the KwaZulu-Natal Museum, Pietermaritzburg.

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed, and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site, and the name and address of the permit holder.

3. The material will be hand-carried to the University of Tübingen by Dr. Manuel Will where Dr. Veerle Rots will transfer the material to the TraceoLab at the University of Liége, Belgium to conduct analysis.

4. Dr. Manuel Will is responsible for the transport of the material to the University of Tübingen. Dr. Veerle Rots is responsible of the transport of the material from the University of Tübingen to her Laboratory at University of Liége and the return of the material to the KwaZulu-Natal Museum.

5. The samples must be used for study purposes only and may not be sold or exchanged. 

7. Destructive analysis or sampling is not permitted.

8. An interim report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be emailed to apmpermitreports@sahra.org.za before or on 30 April 2023 with a final permit report submitted on or before 30 April 2024 using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports.

9. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

10. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties because of any activities in connection with this permit.

11. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

12. Should any legal proceedings arise about this permit or the transport and loan of the material, these proceedings must be addressed within in the South African legislative framework.

13. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
