Additional Conditions
An assessment of the 63 works was conducted on 19 August 2022 at the Johannesburg Art Gallery (JAG). Based on the observations made during this assessment, it is imperative that conservation work be carried out on the following artworks during the course of the loan, by agreement between JAG and Vidi. SAHRA & JAG must be provided a plan of intended conservation interventions prior to their effect, and a report must be submitted to both parties thereafter.

  • JAG600 - Mancini, Anotonio - Lady Phillips. There was historical repair work conducted on this painting in the upper right hand quadrant that requires renewed conservation measures.
  • JAG265 - Millais, John Everett - Stitch! Stitch!. The artwork is slightly loose within the frame, this should be secured to prevent any damage to the work.
  • JAG99 - Courbet, Gustav - La Falaise d'Etretat. The frame for this work is slightly too large for the artwork. A spacer should be added to remount this work within this frame.
  • Jag360 - Le Sidaner, Henri-Eugene-Augustin - La Fenetre sur le Riviere.  A spacer should be added between the artwork and the frame to prevent the artwork from moving within the frame.
  • JAG890 - Sumner, Maud - Red Venice.  The painting has suffered some water damage, the frame at the top of the painting has shifted away from the painting and it should therefore be re-framed.
  • JAG448 - Preller, Alexis - Hieratic Women. The artwork moves within the frame, and the canvas is slightly pinched at the bottom left hand corner of the painting.
  • JAG1997.4.7 - Kentridge, William - Reeds. There are a few small spots of mold forming on the inside of the glass on the upper left hand corner. This should be monitored and treated as necessary.
