Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Conditions: 

For the installation of new service infrastructure and expansion of existing service infrastructure located within the Boschendal Founders Estate, Dwarsrivier Valley, Western Cape Province.

Conditions:

1. This permit is only valid if the Environmental Authorisation 16/3/3/6/7/1/B3/28/1033/22 is granted. Any appeals issued on the EA will suspend this permit. If the EA is withdrawn, this permit is no longer valid.

2. This permit is issued to Sarah Winter.

3. If the permit holder is not to be present on the site at all times, then SAHRA must be provided with the names and qualifications of the authorised representatives.

4. The activities include excavations for new bulk foul sewer line, bulk water pipelines and rising main, stormwater infrastructure (swales and culverts), fibre internet ducts, expansion of existing electricity and irrigation lines, upgrade of existing farm roads, development of new sections of roadway, and the construction of a new 100kl reservoir and new sewer pump station.

5. Monitoring by an archaeologist must be conducted for all excavations within the vicinity of the ore-processing mill precinct, Goede Hoop and Nieuwedorp. SAHRA must be provided with the appointment letter of the archaeologist/s appointed to conduct the monitoring prior to construction. 

6. Should archaeological material or features be uncovered during the monitoring, standard excavation techniques, recording and mapping as per the NHRA Regulations must be adhered to.

7. All material collected and excavated, as well as field notes and records, will be curated by Iziko Museum, who will be responsible for the permanent curation and safekeeping of all artefactual material in a condition that allows ongoing research. Mitigated material, field notes and records must be lodged with the Iziko Museum within one year of the completion of the mitigation work.

8. All waste material and leftover equipment will be removed from the site once the construction has been completed, and the site will be left in the manner it was found (save for the new action).

9. A standard site record form must be lodged with SAHRA.

10. A final report on the results of the activities in the form of a closing report should be submitted to SAHRA by no later than 30 days after the final completion of works by a contractor on site.

11. If archaeological material or features are identified and excavated, a final report on the results of the works must be submitted to the case as a Heritage Report file by the date of the expiry of the permit using the template in the following link: https://sahris.sahra.org.za/content/apmpermitreports. SAHRA reserves the right to withhold further permits if progress is not deemed satisfactory. No information protected by POPIA must be included in the report. If there is a delay in submitting the report, SAHRA must be informed in writing.

12. Reprints of all published papers or copies of theses and/or reports resulting from this work must be lodged with SAHRA.

13. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit, and the excavator is responsible for ensuring that he or she has an understanding with the landowner concerning: the number of visitors and workers; conditions for camping on the property; speed limits on access roads; possible prohibitions on off-road driving; size, type and number of vehicles permitted; possible prohibitions on trespassing beyond the site; disturbing fauna, flora or substrate; erection and demolition of structures on the site; appropriate hours of visiting and working on the site; use of firewood, electricity and water; lighting fires and the prevention of uncontrolled fires and any fencing necessary to protect livestock. Conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.

14. The permitted excavator shall be responsible for the activities and impacts of all colleagues, students and employees under his or her supervision.

15. Permit holders must take measures to ensure the safety of any person who may enter the site as part of their team or as their visitor.

16. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

17. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

18. This permit is subject to a general appeal and may be suspended should an appeal against the decisions be received by SAHRA within 14 days from the date of the permit. SAHRA may not be held responsible for any costs or losses incurred in the event of the suspension or retraction of this permit.

19. Request to renew permits must be done at least two months prior to the expiry of the existing permit.
