Directions:

Take the Inanda Road from Hillcrest, carry on with this raod straight pastSaveway Store. It will take you right down to the Umgeni River where you must turn left and follow this road up river for about 5 kilometres till you come to the new Inanda Dam wall. The site is about half a kilometer past the dam wall next to the river on the left bank of the Umgeni. Elevation:

SiteComments:

The site is situated between the road and the river about 0.5km upstream from the new Inanda Dam wall udner construction.
It consists of a largte piece of ground which ahs been stripped of top soil and the hard sandy subsoil is being removed and used for the construction of the dam.
The hard subsoil which ahs a dark creamy colour, is being broken up by bulldozers using a tuipr of plough to break up the ground. This tends to leave furrows with ridge on the side. After a heavy rain the stone flakes become visible on the ridges.
The photographs (1-5) are of the small flakes from an area of about 40 m closest to the road and just past the African house (see sketch). The larger flakes and tools (photos 6 and 7) are from the area furthest from the road and where the ground has been dug out to the deposit level, about 2-3 metres.
In photos 1-5 the tools (flakes) have been grouped in similar type of stone.
