Artefacts: stone, pottery, bone.
This site was +/- 130 m x 90 m but it has been almost completely destroyed by bulldozing and soil removal. It is situated ona hillside above the Umgeni River and is bounded by a small stream on its north side. The top soil is dark brown and the subsoil is red with a lot of clay. The pottery appeared to be of the Ndondonwane type and a sample of it is with Gavin Whitelaw's collection.
I managed to rescue part of the contents of a pit which was exposed on the south edge of the borrow area (see drawings in site record). The pit contained a small black pot with the base neatly cut out, plus part of a bowl with black graphite burnish, which had 4 sets of grooves which ran from lip to lip nd intersected at the base. Everything collected was handed in to Natal Museum + a charcoal sample.
Another interesting piece of pottery with arrows pointing upwards, which was found in a midden +/- 30m away was also handed in.
