History: This impressive late Victorian building, which was erected at the turn of the century, forms an integral part of the architectural character of Long Street, a part of Cape Town where a uniformity of character has to a large extent remained.
Visual Description: The Blue Lodge Hotel consists of a treble storeyed building with two balconies and a steep roof with dormer windows, pinnacled gables and a corner turret of exuberant late-victorian design, just before 1900. The balconies have intricate moulded MacFarlane cast iron railings and supporting pillars.
This impressive late-Victorian treble-storeyed building with its elaborate roofline, was erected at the turn of the century. It forms a dominant feature of the architectural character of Long Street and by itself a magnificent piece of late-Victorian architecture unsurpassed by any other of this period.
