Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation

History: This building was first occupied in 1877 and accommodated various Government departments. The building has an imposing clock tower with a memorial clock, which was installed in memory of John Brownlee, first missionary and founder of King William's Town.
Visual Description: SQUARE SHAPED BUILDING WITH INTERIOR COURTYARD BELOW A RIDGED AND HIPPED ROOF WITH 3 CHIMNEY STACKS VISIBLE. THE STRAIGHT ROOFED FRONT VERANDAH IS SUPPORTED BY TIMBER COLUMNSON A STONE BASE AND FINISHED OFF WITH CAST IRON BALUSTRADES. THE ENTRANCE IS FORMED BY DOUBLE TIMBER DOORS WITH A STRAIGHT FANLIGHT ABOVE. FENESTRATION MAKES USE OF 4 PANE SASH WINDOWS WITH ARCHED FANLIGHTS. RAISED PLASTER MOULDINGS SURROUND THE WINDOWS. 3 CHIMNEY STACKS VISIBLE ON THE ROOF.
